Hays County Traffic Court Records
Which court holds your case depends on who wrote the ticket. Write it inside city limits and the municipal court usually owns it. A county officer's citation outside those limits may belong to a Hays Justice Court instead. The county JP overview lists fine-only misdemeanors. It also lists civil matters up to $20,000 as justice court work. Seven JP destinations serve San Marcos, Kyle, Wimberley, Dripping Springs, and Buda. Each city runs its own show. San Marcos keeps a Municipal Court of Record plus separate traffic and parking systems. Kyle takes Class C misdemeanors inside the city. Buda posts its own appearance and payment steps. Dripping Springs says plainly that its municipal court hears no traffic cases. Check with JP 4 there. In Wimberley, follow the citation. Confirm JP 3 when it applies.
Choose the Hays Issuing Court
The city name alone will not settle it. Kyle has both municipal and JP offices, Buda splits between Municipal Court and JP 5, and San Marcos runs a Municipal Court alongside JP 1-1 and 1-2. Before you click any payment link, read the court name, the judge or precinct, the citation number, and the appearance date off the ticket.
| Citation source | First Hays route | Key check |
|---|---|---|
| San Marcos city officer | San Marcos Municipal Court | Traffic or separate parking citation |
| Kyle city officer | Kyle Municipal Court | Class C city case |
| Buda city officer | Buda Municipal Court | Court date and plea route |
| County or precinct matter | Named Justice Court | Precinct and judge |
| Dripping Springs traffic | JP 4 | City court excludes traffic |
The county fine-payment page warns users to select the correct court and judge.
Looking Up a Traffic Ticket
Start with the citation number and the issuing city or precinct. Add your name exactly as printed. Then bring the citation date, the court date, and the offense. Hays County offers no single countywide JP search form. When a payment service rejects your number, use the official JP page, the phone, or the counter. And the Hays Odyssey county portal is no sure bet for a municipal or JP citation lookup.
- Read the issuing court and appearance date on the citation.
- Open that court's official page or linked vendor.
- Search with the citation or invoice number and printed name.
- Call the court clerk if no result appears.
- Confirm payment, contest, course, appearance, and warrant terms.
re:SearchTX covers cases statewide, yet it cannot replace the municipal or JP clerk who issued your ticket. For a reliable docket answer, the counter and the phone still work best.
San Marcos Traffic Ticket Routes
The San Marcos traffic payments page links to a TrafficPayment invoice search. It lists 800-444-1187 for that service. You will find the Municipal Court of Record at 350 Barnes Drive, Suite 105, San Marcos. The court phone is 512-393-8190. Hours run Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lunch closure runs noon to 1 p.m. Pay attention before you pay. Under Code of Criminal Procedure Article 27.14(c), the city says paying waives a jury trial. It also produces a guilty finding reported to DPS. That makes payment far more than a neutral lookup step. If you mean to contest, ask the clerk about that route first. Parking runs through a separate city parking route. The city wants a contest within ten calendar days and accepts written requests for alternatives. Immobilization disputes carry their own ten-day hearing-request period. Confirm current deadlines, since the 2025 and 2026 administrative process carries its own specifics.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
The date printed on the citation stands. That holds unless the court grants a change and tells you so. In Kyle, a phone call does not count as an appearance. A calendar or payment result proves nothing. It does not show whether a hearing happened. Check the citation against the clerk notice and the latest court entry.
| Citation number | Use the exact number printed by the issuing authority, such as citation number as printed. |
|---|---|
| Court | Municipal court or named Hays JP precinct. |
| Date and time | Appearance or hearing setting from the citation or clerk notice. |
| Setting type | Plea, pretrial, show-cause, trial, warrant, or other event. |
| Status | Confirm any continuance, reset, or warrant directly with staff. |
Keep proof of any court-approved change, and never assume a reset just because a web result is missing.
Kyle Traffic Pleas and Settings
Kyle Municipal Court procedures walk through pleas, show-cause hearings, pretrial, trial, warrants, and fine collection. The court sits at 100 W Center Street, Kyle, phone 512-262-3994. Your citation or bond carries the appearance date. If a continuance is granted, the court will communicate it. The plea form offers three paths. Guilty and nolo contendere each come with a jury waiver. Not guilty goes before a judge or jury. Nolo contendere means no contest. Plead not guilty and the case moves to pretrial. Miss your date and you risk an added charge or a warrant. One caution: a March 2025 warrant-amnesty event was temporary. Treat it as past, not current, policy.
Pay or Contest a Ticket
Paying and contesting are two different case choices. Either way, verify the exact court, charge, deadline, and current instructions first. Ask about deferred disposition or a driver-safety course, since eligibility varies by court.
| Choice | Action | Record effect |
|---|---|---|
| Pay | Use the issuing court's approved channel | May act as a plea and disposition |
| Contest | Enter the permitted plea and request process | Leads to pretrial or trial setting |
| Course or deferral | Apply before the stated deadline | Depends on approval and completion |
| Payment plan | Request terms from the clerk | Fees and dates may apply |
Failure to appear: A missed deadline can cause added charges, a warrant, fees, or a license-renewal issue. Contact the issuing court at once.
A warrant status on a payment screen is not the whole traffic court record.
Kyle and Buda Payment Terms
Kyle's payment page lays out in-person service Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. An automated phone line sits at 1-866-367-4982. A live court phone and an online portal round out the options. It posts a 3.91% card fee effective October 1, 2025. A 30-day post-judgment period follows. Once 30 days pass, a $15 time-payment fee applies. A three-month plan is available on request. Buda takes payment in person, online, by mail, or through a 24-hour northwest-side drop box. Its page lists a 3% card fee, warns against mailing cash, and sets a $25 returned-check fee. Skip a court date and Buda warns a $50 warrant fee may attach per charge. Check all live amounts before you pay.
Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record
The traffic court record lives with the municipal or JP clerk. It covers the citation case, settings, pleas, court events, and any public disposition. A Texas driver record is something else entirely. The Department of Public Safety keeps that separate state product.
| File | Custodian | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic court case | Issuing municipal or JP clerk | Citation, setting, plea, and court result |
| Driver record | Texas DPS | Separate state driving history |
Getting one is not the same as getting the other. For a certified citation case file, go straight to the clerk of the court that issued the ticket.
Copies and Fees
Each Hays County traffic court sets its own copy fees. The charges listed on this page deal with payment processing or case outcomes, not with a universal certified-copy price. Call the issuing clerk to learn what a plain or certified traffic record costs.
| Reviewed item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Kyle card processing, effective October 1, 2025 | 3.91% |
| Kyle time-payment fee after 30 days | $15 |
| Buda card fee | 3% |
| Buda returned check | $25 |
| Buda warrant fee per charge | $50 |
Check the live city or precinct page for the current amount and accepted payment method. Keep your receipt. It should name the court and the citation. It belongs in your file alongside any plea, driver-safety course request, deferral order, or payment-plan terms. An online charge may not match the figure on an official city page. Stop and verify that the vendor link came from the issuing court. Ask the clerk separately about costs today. Find out what a plain docket sheet, a certified traffic court record, or a search certificate runs.
Buda's citation sheet lists a course amount too. It shows $107 for a moving-violation driver-safety course and $132 for a school-zone course. Treat those as dated application amounts, not a countywide fee schedule. Eligibility rules and required documents have limits of their own. Open the official sheet. Talk with the Buda clerk before relying on either number. San Marcos, Kyle, and each Hays County JP court may differ. They can follow different instructions for the same request.
